Portland's Apothecary Shoppe Donates 2% of Essential Oil Profits to Education in Sustainable Aromatherapy

The Apothecary Shoppe, a Portland-based holistic health and organic product store, has announced that 2% of all essential oil sales will directly support global sustainability education initiatives in botanical production for the essential oil industry.

Starting this month, 2% of sales from the Apothecary Shoppe’s aromatherapy essential oils sourced from certified organic and sustainably wildcrafted botanicals will be donated to promote education in aromatherapy, and organic and sustainability practices across the global essential oil farmer/producer/end user community. Global scholarships will provide the opportunity for students to study aromatherapy and permaculture and essential oil production, education for farmers seeking organic status, and training in sustainable farming and harvesting techniques, among other initiatives.

The Apothecary Shoppe serves the public and students and graduates of American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS). It specializes in certified organic, spray-free, and sustainably wildcrafted essential oils—as well as certified organic herbs and wellness supplies—and has made a public quality promise to source only the highest quality and therapeutically active products and raw materials available. “I’ve traveled the globe to visit organic farms and distilleries for the highest quality and ethically produced raw materials,” says ACHS President and Founder Dorene Petersen, “but it’s not enough to just purchase organic. Overharvesting has put trees like sandalwood on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. So it’s more important than ever to educate farmers and producers about sustainability and to educate consumers about where their products come from. Environmental stewardship takes everyone’s commitment and participation to ensure we have quality natural health and wellness choices for generations to come.”

Petersen is actively involved in the International Federation of Essential Oil and Aroma Trades (IFEAT, www.ifeat.org), including presenting at global conferences and working to educate the organization’s over 100,000 essential oil and aroma trade members about clinical aromatherapy and the global environmental impact of sustainable and organic farming initiatives.
